POWER: How Power is Used in the Workplace

How a person views and reacts to power in the workplace can make or break them. Power can make someone if they use their power as a motivator. In the workplace, people who have more power usually have more authority. For example, a boss using their power or authority as a motivator for themselves to be better for their company but also uses their authority to motivate their employees; the boss has a positive use of power. An example of when the boss would use their power negatively would be if the boss focuses only on their power and authority to be in control and boss other people around. This would break the workplace making it a toxic atmosphere and hard for the employees to be motivated and enjoy their work. Employees would not have a good relationship with their boss, for example, they would feel like they do not have a say and would be uncomfortable to raise their opinions to the boss. This does not nurture a good relationship with employees and the boss making it hard to work as a team in the workplace.
