The Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020
When watching the video on the science of persuasion and learning about the last shortcut, consensus, and the idea that people will look to the actions of others to determine their own all I could think of was the toilet paper being sold out in stores at the beginning of the pandemic. People were scared of the unknown and lockdown, yes, but seeing the shelves being emptied of toilet paper people automatically thought that they would need toilet paper as well. At this point, most if not all people knew that the virus affected the respiratory system and not the digestion and waste systems. This just shows that this was quite a random product to be selling out in stores at the time, so there is a good chance that the idea of consensus was involved.
